In 2022, it was announced that the legacy OverDrive app was being sunsetted to make Libby the primary way for users to enjoy their digital library. In February 2022, the OverDrive app was removed from the Apple App Store, Google Play, and the Microsoft Store.

In July 2022, in-app messaging began being displayed that informed OverDrive app users about the upcoming sunset of the legacy app with a prompt to upgrade to Libby. It is anticipated that the legacy OverDrive app will be discontinued at the end of April 2023. At that time, users who try to access the Library’s collection in the OverDrive app will need to upgrade to Libby.
